About Jenny Pickford

Jenny Pickford combines traditional and modern techniques to create sculptural and functional pieces in forged steel and blown glass. The malleability of these materials, inf the furnace or forge, enables me to breathe organic life into an otherwise inert form.

Biography / CV of Jenny Pickford

Jenny Pickford breaks the rules of convention. Her determination and strength challenge the heritage of blacksmithing and glass blowing, giving it a feminine and sensual perspective inspired by the spirit of nature.

Highly regarded as the United Kingdom`s leading female blacksmith artist, Jenny`s vision and energy is ceaseless.

The combination of motherhood and a wandering lifestyle have provided the visual and conceptual inspiration behind her sculptural forms that verge on fantasy, and push the boundaries of imagination and scale.

Using the perspectives of Lewis Carroll, whilst paying homage to nature, Jenny creates truly unique, enthralling and spiritual designs.

Jenny Pickford`s fusion of traditional crafts with newer technologies evolved following her fine art studies in Belfast. A single blacksmithing workshop lit a spark that has evolved into the portfolio of sculpture seen today.

Artist Statement of Jenny Pickford

"All my life as an artist I have asked myself: What pushes me continually to make sculpture? I have found the answer. art is an action against death. It is a denial of death. "
